According to the ref below, the North American version (UN) will work through December 2015, after which it will not. The P.I. then implements a new transmission standard, ISDB-T. You'll have to carefully check the specs on any TV you buy there to ensure it has the appropriate tuner for the new system.

Being a family driver you are considered being a domestic helper and the following rules apply: An expatriate resident can file an application for a domestic helper's visa at the visa section of the Residency and Naturalisation Department of the Emirate which issued his residence visa. The head of the family (couple with or without children) or a working widow or divorced mother with children, or a widower or divorced father with children can apply for a domestic helper's visa. The sponsor should earn a salary of not less than Dh5,000 with accommodation or Dh6,000. When applying for the domestic helper's visa an expatriate must pay a Dh5,000 refundable deposit which will be returned when the residence visa is stamped on the domestic helper's passport. The sponsor must retain the deposit receipt to obtain a refund. Fees to be paid: When the residence visa is stamped on the domestic helper's passport Dh4,800 must be paid in Interior Ministry fees. Apart from the fee another Dh100 must be paid for the residence visa. - Dh100 for the sponsorship and - Dh100 for a domestic helper's card. When the domestic helper enters the country, you must undergo a health check-up at a government hospital in the emirate where the visa was issued. The cost of the medical check-up is Dh1,200. This should be done before applying for the residence visa. The domestic helper will then be given a health card. You will also be taken for an iris scan and fingerprinting at the police headquarters of the Emirate. The residence visa must be stamped on the domestic helper's passport within 60 days from the date of the person's entry into the country. Can I work as a U.S Citizen in the Philippines?
I have considered the possibility I may move and work in the Philippines. I am a college grad with some business background but currently I am working as a longshoreman in Dutch Harbor Alaska. I bring that up meaning I have education in my background but I am also not afraid to get my hands dirty either. My options are open to anything and if there is a website or some good advice that can point me in the right direction I would be very much grateful ^.^ Take care and thank you.

But here is the bottom line for most of you: Though business opportunities abound even with little capital, a job, unless it is with a foreign company, is hard to find. If you don't work for a foreign based company, with a few exceptions you need be married to a Filipina to legally work in the Philippines. Work permits are not necessary if you are married to a Filipino citizen. You only need to register with the Department of Labor and Employment.

For all pratical purposes, no. 20% of the entire population of the Philippines is working outside the Philippines. Another 50% who are still there are living at the poverty level. Opening a business is a ticket to bankruptcy. As a foreigner married to a Filipina you could get the Philippine equivelent of a green card and work. However, you'll find wages that average $5 a day and that's for 10 hours of work.
