Will electrical adapters for North American telephones work in the Philippines.

Will electrical adapters for North American telephones work in the Philippines.?
Specifically, I am hiring a gal in the Philippines to do cold calling for my US-based software company, and I am providing her with telephone equipment from Packet 8. If it will not work out-of-the-box, where can I buy an adapter?

Landlines in the Philippines is basically based in US Standard. 1. Telephone line jack is RJ11, same as USA. 2. Power line is 220VAC. North America is 110V so it won't work. Let her buy a 220V to 110V step down transformer. 3. Power outlet is FLAT, same as USA.

There are various schools & institutions offering care giving courses in our country. These are fully accredited worldwide. Canada is one of the major destinations of our professionals to practice their individual professions and so far Canada is satisfied with Filipino services, so they hire those graduates after some basic trainings from such accredited schools. You may ask for a caregiver from gary@cgmgroup.co.ls

You would have to unlock your phone, and have some sort of global roaming but it should work since that phone is a CDMA phone and the Philippines uses CDMA.

it should work, but make sure it is unlocked, it seems there is only one carrier has its service (Globe) http://site.globe.com.ph/web/guest/personal-blackberry-plans?sid=3p18j7nxd9gm1248888995820 I dont know if it is the same BIS (Blackberry Internet Service), i dont know if BB Push Email will work... but most probably Internet Browsing will work using EDGE GPRS

Best plan on buying a phone there. The pawn shops are full of them. $10 up for a good one. Buy a phone card and you are set. Has any min. on it when you leave give it to some one there you met.
2 :
Your Iphone will charge you $3.50 us per minute in the Philippines. Buy a cheap local phone ($10.00 us and up) and use it. You can buy loads for it for very cheap also. I would even buy loads to phone home as the rate is much cheaper than your Iphone would charge you from there. Enjoy your trip, The Philippines is a great place :-) Rick
3 :
It'll work but you'd end up paying hefty roaming charges if you are using your home country SIM card/Number. The better option would be to buy a local SIM card from Philippines and use it. But make sure that pre-paid sim card let you use Data so the internet works without any problems.

Is it true that foreigners who work in the Philippines should have higher wages than Filipinos

Is it true that foreigners who work in the Philippines should have higher wages than Filipinos?
Someone said that if Filipinos work in another country they have a higher salary rate than the locals. And if foreigners work in the Philippines they have a higher wage than filipinos. How true is that?
Philippines - 14 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
very true. this is y many filipinos go to other east asian countries or europe or north america to be nurses and maids. the minimum wages in other countries are often higher than phillipines. as for foreigners working in philipines, they typically have higher education than the typical philipino, thus demanding a higher wage, especailly in skilled buisness jobs.
2 :
because filipinos are not that cool
3 :
OFWs earn more because the standard of living in those countries they work in have a higher standard of living. Conversely, expats who are assigned to the Philippines by their companies abroad, earn more than their Filipino counterparts in local firms, because their pay is pegged to that of their previous assignments. But if a foreigner who does not have work, and then is accepted by a Philippine company, would earn approx the same as their Filipino counterparts. The only exception I could think of would probably be if they had some skill that is valuable, say IT knowledge from experience in foreign firms, or English skills that would allow them to train call center agents, for example.
4 :
i am aware that filipinos who worked in foreign grounds get lesser salary than the locals thus they hire more of this foreign workers while the foreign nationals who worked in the Philippines get higher salary than the locals.
5 :
The truth of the matter is that most Filipinos are NOT good managers. A foreigner working in the Philippines in a managerial position can get 10 times more done in a days work than his Filipino counterpart. So, it's no wonder why they get paid more. Filipinos are never in a hurry to do anything (sandale) (wait a while) (come back tomorrow) etc.. Anything they touch automatically becomes a bureaucratic nightmare with unnecessary red tape. They were born to follow, not to lead.
6 :
Not necessarily true, but the general consensus is that there'r fewer incentives for foreign nationals to work in philippines as expats (due to a lower Human development Index and impoverished setting), and thus require higher compensation to work here. Most of these are in the form of package deals, like a combination of housing/transport incentives, education incentives for accompanying family, annual return ticket. Philippines having a struggling local job market means a greater number of filipinos are more likely to work abroad for considerably higher salaries, for less-than-perfect positions, without perks etc. Additionally, they have less bargaining power if their employment history included working for considerably less pay in the Philippines. But it really depends on how the employment process goes like the applicant's exposure to foreign average salaries, or if it's an internal transfer to foreign branches, which salary bracket the employee belongs to, multinational vs local companies.
7 :
I really do not have idea on how our philippine government is treating our foreigner workers in the philippines . but i think it depends on what kind of job , the qualifications , the competencies should be accounted for . filipinos are very particular of the efficiency , the talent . the intelligence of the worker specially those who share their technical , managerial capabilities which aids in the improvement and development of our nation .
8 :
Nurses can make above average. Not a brick layer. Some come here with jobs from home that pay at the rate they would make there. Anyone looking for work in the common market should get paid the same unless they bring a special skill the owner wants to pay more for.
9 :
i dont think so...God created us equally!!! do not underestimate the capabilities of filipino people, it doesnt mean that ur a foreigner u will get a higher wage from the filipino government, it depends upon the situation if u think ur capable of the position that has given to u, if u think ur special, smart, knowledgeable and u can do everything that others cant well maybe u deserve a higher wage from the government or from a private institution. there are filipinos who are also smart and talented, equipped of knowledge and determined with their jobs...not all foreigners r smart and knowledgeable and not all of us are gifted but all of us has different talents and abilities.
10 :
It is a fact that foreigners earn more than Locals here ... It is happening now.. Is it right? NO.. Nobody SHOULD have the right to a higher salary rate here except the locals... But we can't help it, they demand higher and they get it..
11 :
Most filipinos when going abroad to work have higher amounts of money earned compared to life in the philippines (if they come from a poor or disadvantaged situation). Most currencies like the american/canadian dollar, british pound etc. have a higher value than the peso, so they end up earning more when converted over to pesos. However, in north america most contract workers end up getting paid lower income compared to the locals that live there. It depends on the educational background of the contract worker. Also most filipino professionals from the philippines do not have their college education recognized to the full degree in north america. I don't think foreigners that work in the philippines should have higher wages than the filipino people.
12 :
Its basic economics. You are making an effort to bring a person from a different country, different culture, to work in your area. This can be for a variety of reasons, but in our current international trade era, it is obvious that a company with Russian employees will do better selling their products in Russia. In order to make it attractive for the person to leave their home country, you just have to make them an attractive offer. They will always earn more than some guy from down the street. This is also true for the OFW workers there. You just will not get Filipinos to come to your country to work if you offer them average wages from the Philippines.
13 :
It's not always true that Filipinos working overseas would get a higher pay as compared to the locals. However, if western people would come to work in the Philippines, yes, they get paid double or even triple than what a filipino would get. The reason? People leave their countries in exchange for better opportunities and more money on the pocket. Why would anyone leave their own countries to work abroad if the pay is less? It doesn't make sense.
14 :
filipinos earn less than locals in places like hong kong, singapore, uae, ksr, etc.. foriegners earn more in philippines, because local wages are so low, only higher paid foriegners will work in philippines. filipinos have higer than avg earnings in usa, earning more than most other asians.

Yes, it will work in most cases. Unless it is an ancient phone you'll have no issue. Now my phone when connected via 3G sometimes wont let me call. I think that's a problem with the 3G locally though. You'll need to get a SIM card once you're here. They cost about P40 and come with load or credits. You can also get cell phones in the Philippines very cheap unless you insist on getting brand names. For those, you might pay a little more.

No you can not legally even do volunteer work with a regular tourist visa... If you don't do a lot of talking about it and just go ahead and do it, you might get a way with it....most local officials would appreciate it and not say a thing... But remember you are taking a chance that if someone gets upset with you they could turn you in to immigration...... Now with that said, let me say this..."DON'T use the word volunteer", your just here to visit someone and you are "helping out". I really don't think you would have any problem with it, as long as you approach it that way and don't try to make yourself look like you are doing a favor to them... It also depends on where you will be..... Living in Philippines 7 years.
2 :
I don't see any problem with that. Foreigners come and go and do work for civic orgs like Habitat for Hummanity and GK. so that's a big yes! in fact its an act that would get much appreciation

Are there Pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines to work for

Are there Pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines to work for?
Are there Pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines? How is employment for Pharmaceutical companies there? I worked for Pharmaceutical industry and was told that my job would be sent to Singapore. Apparently there are more opportunities to work in Singapore but I have heard that there are a few Pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines (Makati). I would prefer the Philippines over Singapore. So can anyone tell me if there are Pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines? And how employment opportunities are for Pharmaceutical companies there?

Most Pharmaceutical companies have large offices in the Philippines. You might want to apply here: 1. Unilab 2. Pascual Laboratories 3. Astra-Zeneca 4. Zuellig Pharmacies search them in google. Good luck.
2 :
OF COURSE THERE IS. We maybe a poor country but definitely we still have pharma companies that sale drugs. Just like any other countries around the world. What do you mean how is employment for a pharma companies? Haven't you been in a job yet? Any particular job? Why would someone ask how is employment if he or she hasn't been employed yet. Nobody ask this question. So you already worked for a pharma company so what is the big deal on asking a question on how is employment in a pharma company? It is like a janitor looking for a janitor job and still asking how is janitorial job there to one of his friends working in a building. Well quite the same I suppose. What you were doing in your former pharma company is precisely the same you will do in the other pharma company that you will transfer. I think that is common sense, don't you think? WHY NOT WORK IN SINGAPORE then, if I were you I rather work in Singapore. You will probably ask me why. Good I thought you never ask. Well for one thing, Singapore is one of the wealthiest countries in Southeast Asia compared to the Philippines. I'll make it simple, compare a toilet of a 5 star hotel to a one star or two star hotel. Walk and smell the difference. In a 5 star hotel every amenities is practically there while in a small time hotel you wouldn't enter a toilet on your own. Well Singapore is a 5 star while the Philippines is a small time hotel. Get the picture? As you said there are more opportunities in Singapore compared to the Philippines so why not grab those opportunity before they fly away. What you heard are true there are quite a few pharma companies right there in Makati area in Manila, Philippines. But if you are a Fil-Am wishing to land a job in the Philippines I suggest forget it. Most employer will choose a Filipino right there in the Philippines than you. You may ask again-why. Why because there is much higher unemployment right now in the Philippines. So instead of asking a foreigner like you to work for pharma in the Philippines why not a jobless Filipino right there in the Philippines. Correct right and a little bit common sense too. If I am an employer of a big pharma co. in the Philippines I rather choose a Filipino right here in the Philippines and probably tell you to just stick to your plan in going to Singapore. I do not know why you prefer the Philippines over Singapore. Let me guess over a gossip that Philippine girls are more beautiful than Singapore women, right or left? Right probably. I hope this help you a lot to think and reconsider in going to Singapore.

will US desktop computer work in the Philippines?
im debating if i should buy in the philippines since im coming back home but i found out that its more cheaper if i buy a desktop package here in US then send it home through LBC. i know that voltage is higher there but i can easily get away with that through voltage converter, but my question is, will it work in the philippines if i buy the computer in the US?
Desktops - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The only problem might be the power, so if you get the voltage converter there shouldn't be any difference.
2 :
I think you already addressed your question, If you use a voltage converter you should be up & running. 1 word of caution is by taking the system to your home country- Not the USA- it will probially would void the warranty, That's what happened to my Marine friends who bought Pioneer Stereo components in the Philippines and brought it back state side, Just a bit of knowledge that we ran into , but that was back in 1977. Things may have change but I seriously doubt it. Good luck on your move, & If you bought a good system I suspect you'll have no problems. Good Luck, Again.!!!
3 :
Of course it will work. If PC's power supply has a 115 - 230VAC selector switch, you simply set it to the higher voltage when in the Philippines. If PC's power supply is the more sophisticated model that has active PFC, it is usually auto-ranging. It will automatically work on any AC outlet from 100 to 240VAC. Better check the warranty. Look for Global warranty. Otherwise, you may have a problem with warranty claim once PC is in the Philippines. Personally, if I were in your situation, I would rather buy a laptop in the US (cheaper) but buy a desktop in the Philippines.

Pretty much anyone can call themselves an "accountant" in the US. For the most part the only restrictions are on Certified Public Accountants or CPAs as they are commonly known in the US. A CPA is similar to a Chartered Accountant in most other countries. A CA from the RP could work as an accountant in the US but could not call themselves a CPA until they met the state licensing requirements and passed the CPA exams in the state where they were practicing.

Yes it will work fine. Most power is 110 same as in US. Make sure you protect your laptop with a surge protector. Power greatly flucuate in P.I.

The laptop should work fine. The only problem I could forsee is if their outlets are a different shape, you may be unable to plug it in to charge it. I found this page: http://treehouse.ofb.net/go/en/voltage/Philippines I'm not sure if that will help you.
3 :
So long as the laptop has a variable power source such as 110-130-240 volts, or if she just runs on batteries you need a battery charger adaptable to the Phillipine power source.
4 :
Yes, it would work. Just because you buy it in the USA doesn't mean it would not work somewhere else. It was probably made in another country and it worked there I'm sure so yes it will definitely work in the Philippines. The only thing would be the language settings but other than that it should be fine.

Your sony ericsson K330 is a dual band GSM/GPRS 900/1800, in Australia, most network uses GSM 900/1800. So I believe it will work in Australia provided your phone is unlocked/open line or you will be using it for your international roaming.

Does working in the Philippines as a professional or college grad commensurate with its salary pay as compared to our Asian neighboring countries?

Jobs are tough in the P.I... and usually you have to know people to get a good job... Everyone is fighting for a job
2 :
If you can find one, that would be great. Working in other countries is not a pleasant as advertised. Prepare for all the hustle like racial discrimination, resentment, and adaptability to the new surroundings and cultures. Money-wise, it doesn't commensurate but money is not everything in life. Happiness, peace of mind and comfort is priceless. I work and live abroad and if given a choice, I prefer to be in my home country where I understand the culture than to learn and adapt to it. The reason why I am coming back as soon as necessary.
3 :
Depending on what it is,there should not be a problem, There are businesses like the hotel business which have people working from many different countries. Then you have talented people who go there and take advantage the opportunities that exist there. The people have been so long that they can't see the opportunities that exist there. That is why you have businesses like McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts. Then there was the two Filipino's who found an opportunity and brought computer cafe's there. Which have turn into one of the best business there.

1 :
probably not it depends on what company you have if it was a blackberry or a smart phone you could
2 :
It should. Just don't forget to activate international roaming. Check which one of the communications provider here has roaming services and what type and the most competitive rates in your destination.
3 :
No. You will need a tri-band or quad-band phone and roam your Sim before leaving Phils. The Nokia 1100 is dual band and yes, they have them in other countries but the frequencies are different. Likewise if you bring a Nokia 1100 from abroad it probably will not work in Phils. You should be able to find a cheap tri-band phone easily enough just check the sticker in the battery compartment for the frequencies.

The Philippines use mostly NTSC format while Singapore uses PAL format. The two are not compatible and you need to find a PAL region disc (it would say it on the box). Or use Datel's freeloader for Wii.

Would a Nintendo Wii bought from the Philippines work in Singapore

Would a Nintendo Wii bought from the Philippines work in Singapore?
Hello, Would a Nintendo Wii bought from the Philippines (whose main TV system is NTSC) work in Singapore (main TV system is PAL)? I know all about the region issues with the game CDs themselves as well as the electricity concerns of the console (110v versus 220v) but I am concerned whether the Nintendo Wii is TV system-agnostic since it directly plugs into the TV via composite cables.

It would work if you get a NTSC Tv to go with your wii .but i would be concerned with the voltage.could work if you had a power converter of some sort.

How can a newly Registered nurse in the philippines work as a nurse in australia

How can a newly Registered nurse in the philippines work as a nurse in australia?
thanks!
Philippines - 3 Answers

1 :
for a newly registered nurse it can be tough to work in Oz right away. first you nursing qualification in the Phils is not actually recognised in a way unless you need also to take the exam set forth by the Australian board of nursing http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/ i think you need to pay AU$10K for an 8 weeks course thereby you're also required to take an exam. this can be very risky should you fail the exam that's it good bye for your AU$10K. Another way is to apply as a enrolled nurse http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/en.html this is about 18 months course but when you finish this course you're not actually a registered nurse you work like a nurse assistant in a way. For you to be registered you have to take a one year university course in nursing. or apply a uni nursing course http://www.unsw.edu.au/ depending on your Phil transcript of records they might credit some of your subjects as a result there's a probability of you becoming 2nd year right away. BTW nursing here is three years without board exams. another way is acquire Phil nursing experience and apply later in state like Queensland http://www.health.qld.gov.au/nursing/default.asp apply directly to the state government by way of checking out their websites do not apply to any agency in the Phils if you know what i mean. what are those websites? just google the states i mention below. just a simple tip don't apply in NSW or Sydney for it'll be quite difficult to get in as migrant level in Sydney is closely monitored by the Oz government. But states like Queensland, Western Australian, South Australia, Tasmania etc etc they might have more opportunities for possible migrant like you. one good thing in Oz though even if you're a uni student you can work part time at a maximum of 20 hrs weekly. in other words if you know how to budget well you can actually pay off your tuition by working 20 hrs weekly. your annual tuition is about AU$14K should you have more queries please don't hesitate to ask me.... good luck! to the person beneath me........ dunno too where the person below got the info there's no such thing as "commission on nursing" as a matter of fact it is called Nurses and midwives board. just click the link provided. obviously who's clueless? the board's office down in central close to UTS (my previous uni) will let you know what I'm talking about..... just read the first paragraph please for your info that explains if you are a newly registered nurse from Phils. clearly i said your qualififcation in Phils is not in a way accepted in Oz. hope you got it right this time...... in short for you to be recognise in Oz the only way to go is the nurses and midwives board...... get your facts right... g'day
2 :
Dunno where Fidel gets his information--back of a weet bix packet maybe.??? You cant even apply to Oz without a minimum 2 years practical experience in nursing and you have to be in full time work as a nurse in the Phils when you do apply. So far so good, You can apply to the Commission on Nursing by email and you will be required to undergo an interview for any position you apply for but --get this--the interviews are often done by telephone.I am not kidding. E-Mail any Aussie hospital, just google them for addresses and make some enquiries. If you are accepted for a nursing position the Hospital that employs you provides a letter to our Immigration Dept and presto--a 4 year work visa is yours. The extra training you WILL require to become in line with Aussie qualifications is undertaken at your new job here and where Fidel gets 10 k for this is beyond me--its called 'on the job training' here . Not only is it done all by the hospital but you are fully paid while doing the training. GET GOOGLING THOSE HOSPITALS OR EMAIL ME FOR FURTHER INFO. Fidel doesnt have a clue I can assure you of that.
3 :
Depends on how you do it. You can do it the legal way. Which is by going to the DIMA website and putting your name down on a list of professions looking for workers. They will get in contact with you and let you know when and where to provide details. A sponsor looking for people may contact you and sponsor you to come to australia. Or you can look for jobs in Australia and lodge direct application with a company or government looking for nurses. Or you can do it the backdoor way and pay a commission to an 'agency' in Manila who will claim that they can get you work in Australia and rip you off and take your money by deducting further commissions from your pay when you come to Australia.

will the aiwa television work in Philippines? i bought from the middle east

i bought aiwa brand television here in middle east and want to send to Philippines, do you think it will work there?

If it has the NTSC configuration, why not? But you can check up also from the shop where you got it.
2 :
as long as the voltage is 110/220V 60hz that should be fine.. remember 60hz and not 50hz.... also it should be NTSC or multisystem. plugs - you can always remove the ground (3rd prong).. if the 2 metal contacts are slanted you can cut the cord and replace it with a conventional plug which is available at your local hardware store.. no worries about the polarity its a 220/110V and therefore waveform is sinusoidal. lastly,, its better to buy from philippines than sending your aiwa.. cost of shipping and damage is not worth it..
3 :
I think maybe the plug problem and also the magnetic field which I am not sure wills cause a problem as some TVs are magnetised according to certain fields? But I dont think it will be that effect? Some countries are using those slanted plugs head.
4 :
Looks like I have a namesake above. lol. Anyways, as he (I?) said make sure it is NTSC and not PAL compliant. The PAL standard is prevalent in the European markets. They also tend to use "round" plugs instead of the flat blades. You can get a cheap adapter for that. However, I would not suggest removing the "ground" prong on a three-prong plug. It's there for a reason and given the electrical service instability in the country, the 3rd prong is invaluable in protecting your equipment against surges. You can always buy an adapter that fits between your TV's 3-pronger plug and a 2-pring outlet.
5 :
no problem with that. Aiwa CTV from middle east has the same voltage configuration and system as that in the Philippines. what you should worry though is you warranty claims. If your TV encounters a problem, some Aiwa Authorized service center will not recognize your warranty claims. plugs should never pose a problem. there are thousand of adaptors available in the philippines.
6 :
Yes, I think it will. The brand of your television set has nothing to do with viewing the channels as long as the channels are reset to the local ones.

Hate to sound like a smartaleck, but are you serious? Hard enough as it is for a Philippine-educated engineer to find a job in the Philippines as an engineer, so, unless you know someone on the inside who's willing to vet your creds, your chances are pretty slim. I have a couple of engineering relatives who had to find work w/ foreign employers. And I hope you're willing to earn Philippine salaries, as opposed to American ones. Don't need me to tell you the difference. That said, there are a number of firms out there who've outsourced jobs into the Philippines in recent years. It's a matter of looking them up. Good luck.

What are the requirements to work in Philippines

What are the requirements to work in Philippines?
If you're a foreigner, but you have an immigrant visa, what other requirements are there to work legally in philippines, and where would you go to get them taken care of?
Philippines - 6 Answers

1 :
if you are to work for a private company you should have a work permit issued by the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation. You cannot work for the government, except as a consultant, because one of the requirement is you should be civil service eligible and to be one, aside from passing the civil service examination, you should be a citizen of the country.
2 :
if your are already in the Phil, first you should burn or keep all your foreign papers obtained from abroad then be back as a pinoy and don't tell and forget everything about your foreign experiences.
3 :
If you have an immigrant visa there are no other requirements. Hope you can work for $4 a day for a 10 hour shift.
4 :
THERE IS LITTLE OR NO WORK FOR THE FILIPINO'S WHO LIVE THERE THAT ALL WANT TO WORK , SO FOR A NON FILIPINO , GETTING WORK WILL BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE , AND YOU WILL HARDLY MAKE ENOUGH TO EAT ! FOR A 10 HOUR SHIFT ! LET ALONE LIVE ! GOOD LUCK.
5 :
Are you looking at direct work or setting up a business as they have different requirements. There is a list of businesses you cannot operate as a foreigner (unless its owned by a Philippines citizen). But there is also other businesses you can operate. If you are looking to just move and work here you can move use your immigration visa and just register for work. But to be honest you have picked about the worst time as there is very little new work developing due to the Philippines now in recession. Foreign work as a call center trainer maybe a possibility depending on accent and ability to teach. Otherwise most jobs are poor paying and not offering more than P10,000 a month (you need to check the upto date exchange rate to convert to your own currency). Personally I wouldnt advise anyone just up and leaving without at least first getting an idea of what you need to live on a tight budget aswell as finding a job.

why not? they have so much in common.
2 :
sure they both need help
3 :
Yes and any country who has many migrant citizens in the Philippines should work together for the benefit of their own citizens - either permanently or temporarily migrated. Obviously, the Koreans are the latest of foreign countries who found the Philippines worth living in. I am hoping however that Philippine government should work hard to protect the country's sovereign and rights if it's very citizen or we end up being the minority in our country one day. - I am a Filipino
4 :
just curious..with MEL what is it they have in common ?
5 :
Well they are similar in that they are both Asian countries. But in a religious aspect, the Philippines are mostly Roman Catholic and South Korea is primarily Protestant (though buddhism is on the rise). Economically South Korea is stronger with some rich companies such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai (not just Motors but also their heavy industrials, which is the largest in the world, and their company Hynix, which is the sixth largest semiconductors company in the world). The Philipines GDP is about $145 Billion, compare that to South Korea's at about $1.196 trillion, or even the USA's at about $13 trillion
6 :
In a span of about 50 years Korea became an industrial and economic power in the world. The Korean people have a lot that they can teach people in the Philippines so that they will no longer have to export labor just to survive.

Sorry, but your Philippines degree will not be recognized in the USA. You would have to get a degree from a US college. It's just that the two countries have different educational standards and requirements. I'm not saying that one is better than the other - I'm just saying they are different. Same goes for work experience. Jobs you have done in the Philippines system aren't necessarily how those same types of jobs are done in the US.

Yes it will. In the Phillippines the two cell frequencies used are most likely 900mhz and 1800mhz (which are mainly used in Asia and Europe) and the phone you are asking about receives those frequencies. You will have to buy it unlocked if it is not offered by Globe or SMART, and then have it transferred to one of those networks (or whatever other ones are available in the Phillippines). I had a similar question that I answered last night about SIM card sizes in the US and Phillippines, so you may want to email your cell phone operator and Sony Ericsson to see if the SIM card slot will fit the SIM card you'll be putting in it.

It depends of the goods you are importing and the volume. If not heavy or bulky. Using air express (Fedex, DHL, TNT) should be the best. They will send directly to your door. If it's heavy and bulky, you can ship by sea vessel. You can ask the seller to arrange the shipment for you. At the receiving end, you can ask a forwarder to clear the customs duties for you. For importation requirements, see the BOC webpage.
