how is work in the united states different from philippines

how is work in the united states different from philippines?
how is work in the united states different from philippines??? from hours worked, and the work week and vacation time. pls answer it...

Same 8 hours daily, 5 days a week in the USA, but in the Philippines some companies require 6-day workweeks, some require half day work on Saturdays, but some companies, especially big multinationals have only 5-day workweeks. Vacation leave credits in the USA are more generous. In the Philippines, a worker gets entitled to VL only after finishing probation, and only gets pro-rata credits thereafter. Big companies add leave credits to employees who have chalked up a 5-year tenure, adding an extra day a week for every year at work. Thus, where I used to work, I had 15 days annual vacation leave after working for 8 years. But if we add all the holidays and the special non-working holidays decreed by the government, we might just be even with our US counterparts !
2 :
The main difference is that in the US you work and in the Philippines you dont.
3 :
Depends on who you work for. Anything over 40 hours is overtime but some manage to avoid that. You have to work steady if not hard. Safety is a big factor. Some give vacation some don't . It isn't the law that you do. The pay is the biggest difference. You are by law paid at least minimum wage but people who work for it will make more. Qualified people start out much higher. There are incentives like commissions to get you to work better and earn more. It's the pay system that keeps the Pinoy from advancing.
4 :
Work is the same anywhere in the world. It takes so much force to move a certain weight from point X to point Y. Wages and benefits vary from place to place, from employer to employer. There might be employers who adjust their work clock 20 minutes in the evening*, and then adjust is to be late 30 minutes in the closing hours. One cannot question that that clock is wrong. If you do get it in your head to rectify the clock, it is in violation of company policy to exploit the labour force as much as possible. * evening - this should be "morning", rather. To enable them to deduct something from wages, for being "late".
5 :
Generally the same. Although hiring & selection is not the same & in the Philippines there are lot of holidays (with pay) & there are mid-year, 13th month bonus pay, which obviously you did not work but get paid for (some even have14th month, 15th month, nth month as well as a Christmas bonus)--which I all miss....

Would a laptop from the Philippines work in the U.K

Would a laptop from the Philippines work in the U.K?
My father is going to sent a laptop over with my brother for college work etc, but it MUST be wireless and I MUST be able to play DVDs and CDs etc on it, like will it be 100% suitable for use over here in the U.K? I'm doing college work so I need to be able to access online and emails. I also need to be able to play revision CDs on it, and be able to watch DVDs on it that will be helpful to my course. Its for college so iTunes and MSN Messenger aren't needed. Also, I have only ever had Windows, will a laptop from the Philippines have Windows, or some other operating system? Could it play copies, or can no laptop play copies, I've never had one, just stuck to computers.

Yes, the only differences between the Phillipines laptop and a UK laptop are: 1) Power plug is different shape, but you can buy a plug adaptor (no converter needed, the power supply can adjust to the voltage itself) 2) Might have Philipino-language Windows installed. You can just change this back to English in the language settings.
2 :
Yes. The laptop would work absolutely fine. But you might need a universal power plug to connect your laptop charger to electricity. This you can buy at any electricity shop. The only thing you might need to do (though even without that you would be able to do all your work), is to change Region and Language Setting. But that is very easy to do. :)
3 :
Laptop from Philippines are actually working anywhere in the world. :D Laptop from Philippines has a complete Operating system and softwares. It has wireless card for internet. The best way is to ask your father about the specs of a laptop that he is going to send.
4 :
yes it will work :D

Will buying an iphone3gs/4 in philippines work in newzealand?
[backstory] my mums going to philippines...and like any other country then nz (most countries anyway) iphones...and everything in general is pretty much cheaper over seas since nz over price stuff Q.Q anyway i was wondering if i tell my mother to buy me an iphone 4 or 3gs from the philippines if it would work in newzealand?? like if it will be unlocked and im able to put in my voda/2degrees/telecom sim into it and it'd work as normal.....and also wondering whether the iphones sold in philippines have any down side to them? (e.g the iphones in china apparently dont come with wifi) thanks! Edit: about the china thing... some dude told me and i just assumed it to be real, so if it isnt its my bad, that guy told me that they sold iphones w/out wifi because of some weird law.

you can buy an iphone 3gs or 4 from globe (the exclusive distributor of iphone in the philippines) but it would take like a month to arrive becos the phone is still going to be shipped from the u.s. you can use it in new zealand when you have it unlocked. all iphones are designed in the u.s. but manufactured in china so i don't know what you're talking about it not coming with wifi. all iphones have wifi. edit:i'm sorry you're right about the china iphones not having wifi. see link for details: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/08/iphone-china/ but the ones sold in the philippines are not crippled, to answer your question.

OMG. I've got the same dilemna. I want a sidekick III and I don't know where to get it. I'm from the Philippines also. :) And the Philippines don't have T-Mobile. And, are you sure there's a sidekick III in Japan? I'm sorry, instead of answering, I'm asking. :)) I really want the Sidekick III. :)
3 :
Here is what you should know. T-mobile is a GSM network, so it should work internationally, of course if it has the right connection megahertz. Now the good news for you is that Japan and Philippines are both gsm networks. The bad news is that the sidekick 3 is not a international phone. It may work because it supports the 1800mhz, but you may left in the dark if you switch to a 900mhz band because the sidekick doesn't support that range (from the T-mobile website in US).

what is the best penalty for being late at work in the philippines

what is the best penalty for being late at work in the philippines?
the first offense, second and etc.. what should we do to that employee
Philippines - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
suspend them for a days work.
2 :
1st offense -warning 2nd offense- one day absent 3rd offense- 15 day suspension 4th offense- dismissal
3 :
3 lates = 1 absent or 5 minutes late from the call-time = deduction of P20 per day
4 :
Allan Y gave a good answer. How about death by ungga-bungga.
5 :
i admit i was always late at my previous job (10th offense wouldnt work for me!). but no one gave me any penalty or warning. they just got back on deduction on my pay. but i wish they just kicked me out.. lol
6 :
If its a girl late for work: 1st Offense - Candlelight dinner 2nd Offense - A Ferrari 3rd Offense - An engagement Ring If its not: 1st Offense - A one step promotion 2nd Offense - A place in the Board 3rd Offense - I'll release the girl offender and may the two of them live happy ever after.
7 :
1st offense to 3rd offense - nothing 4th offense - salary deduction (make brackets for certain number of minutes) e.g. 15 minutes = 1/4 day or 1 hour = 1/2 day. 5th offense and 6th - same as 4th offense 7th - written reprimand 8th - suspension 9th - dismissal Since this a minor offense, this rule should be on a yearly basis only.
8 :
1st - verbal warning 2nd - written warning 3rd - final written reprimand 4th - 2 days suspension (w/o pay) 5th - 4 days suspension (w/o pay) 6th - dismissal
9 :
Late or Tardiness is a minor offense. Most company call it Type C offense. 1st offense: 3 lates in a month = written warning 2nd offense: 4th late = 3 days suspension 3rd offense: 5th late = 2 weeks suspension w/ last warning for termination 4th offense: 6th late = ???

BPI ATM cards are international. So that means you can use it outside the Philippines. It has a Cirrus Maestro printed in the card which means it can be used anywhere abroad.
2 :
Any ATM card with the "interac", "plus" and "cirrus" symbol and logo work in any machine with the "interac", "plus", and "cirrus" logo. They are interchangeable/compatible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_%28interbank_network%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLUS

Yes..as i know as long that your card is international and have a cirrus logo..or mastercard and visa theres no problem using it in other country..Actually i have one BPI i use it for a while here in us but then need to close it because i might live here permanently now..

It will work as long as he has a means to charge it. The USB to computer connection isn't the idea means, but it'll work. That is, assuming he has access to a computer. If not, he won't be able to put content on the device, which would make it pretty much useless to him.

Why do most of the newly graduate in the Philippines wants to work in a call center

Why do most of the newly graduate in the Philippines wants to work in a call center?
Every year more and more graduates in the Philippines is trying their luck in call center. Most of them graduated a Bachelor degree in a well know school. I'm just intrigue to this scenario... I really want a smart answer here....

Thats where the money is. You know a steady job.
2 :
It's the easiest job to fill in and a lot of them are available. New graduates want to gain experience and they want it fast.
3 :
I dont know but if ur a little pinoy boy and ur lonely one day and wanna chat... JK! jk! BUT SERIOUSLY i CANT HELP YA WITH UR QUESTION Sorry!!!! =(
4 :
Its a good place to start. low pressure and good pay. if you get started in a call center and do a very good job, when you want to move on to your next job, you will have a good refrence from your call center boss and a college degree
5 :
Carlos, Consider the alternative; work at Jollibee's or McDonalds? Now, when you say most, does that mean nearly half of the new grads or just a small percentage? I will tell you one advantage in working for a call center: It helps you practice your interaction in english. This could actually lead you to a more promising line of work somewhere down the line (e.g. sales, management, consulting & maybe ownership) working with expats like myself. Best of Luck!
6 :
Well, right now they have the most job openings. Also, they have one of the higher starting pays as compared to other industries. And with how unstable our economy is, jobs are really hard to come by. We produce more graduates than jobs each year.
7 :
nurses even in a big city where I'm at is even paid a third of what call center agents are taking home- net so this answers your question,,, it's really about the money first then the experience.. you get to have a glimpse of the american world and get to be familiar with different accents.. including their complaints of your accent ..

"I want to send my girlfriend a TV from the US will it work in the Philippines

"I want to send my girlfriend a TV from the US will it work in the Philippines?
Could you help know what it wi take if it will not
Philippines - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
on the navy base it would they sell converters send one with it just for safety
2 :
Yes it is. They just need a transformer to step down the voltage to 120 since Philippine have a diff. electrical voltage
3 :
Best thing to do is see if the TV you want to buy has a built in power converter. Some can handle both 110 volts (US power) and 220 volts i think is pretty much all over seas. If it does support both voltage then you will just need to get a Plug Adapter because our wall plugs are different .. If it only supports 110 then you will need to get a power converter that will convert the 220 down to 110. Power converters only cost about 20$ I would go with a converter so in case you ever send her something else electronic she will already have a converter and be good to go :) Good Luck :)
4 :
In the past, electronic products "voltages" differs from countries and standards ( US, Europe, Asia, etc..). The newer products now, are usually "auto volts" . This way manufacturers can send their products anywhere in the world without worrying about the countries voltage. You can check your TV's specs at the back of the unit if it says Voltage 100V to 240 Volts , then your good to go. As to the frequency, most units also have multiple region and use. Just the same the Phils also uses US standard TV broadcasting so not a problem there.
5 :
It will work, but too many complications. Better buy one in the Philippines. The electrical requirements are exactly what is needed in the country. And besides, repair will be easier. The guarrantee exists and can be reparied locally, for free within the time limit. If you bring one from the States - it will another story. Buy one in the Philippines! You can avoid the hurdle of transporting and paying additional expenses.
6 :
Most definitely yes!
7 :
It will. Some newer models are dual voltage. Otherwise, a converter, or voltage regulator with a 110 socket included, would work.
8 :
of course it will. but you gotta be careful on the Shipment of the TV. and be sure to buy a TV that can be Plugged on either 110V-220V so your wife won't be needing to plug it on a Power Transformer. good luck!
9 :
You need to allow for 100 percent customs duty on the TV. If an item is shipped by Fed Ex or UPS and insured, then the customs price will be the amount of the insurance amount. Customs duty must be paid before item can be picked up. I was going to ship only 5 pounds of stuff from the USA to the Philippines via Fed Ex. The price was $ 240.00. I decided not to ship it. Have you priced the shipping of the TV? Many packages shipped via regular mail from the USA to the Philippines never arrive. They are correct about the voltage converters. Voltage converters are available in every hardware store, here in the Philippines. Philippines is 220 volts 60 cycle, convert to 110 volts. I would recommend sending cash via Moneygram and have her buy a local TV.
10 :
everyone is correct the voltage is different and you may need a transformer but it would be better to buy one there no shipping costs ,easier to repair and way cheaper , you can get a real nice set there than you were planning to get overseas wth shipping

Will US PS3 work in Philippines

Will US PS3 work in Philippines?
I am thinking to buy a PlayStation 3 and bring it back to the Philippines. Based on my readings the problem when I do this is with the blu-ray. I believe there is a thing that you call region locked? Does PS3 region locked as well? I wanted to buy a PS3 here rather than buy in the Philippines - it is much cheaper to buy here in US. Can you tell me more about the pros and cons when buying a PS3 and bringing it back to the Philippines?
PlayStation - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yup. You can set languages and stuff. :) There is no pros or cons, its like buying a ps3 from japan, there is no difference :D.
2 :
The first good news is that ps3 games are region-free. The potentially bad news is that blu-ray video discs are region-coded, except for the really good news that the Philippines and the US are in the same region, region A. I am not so sure about DVD regions. You may be out of luck with those because there are a lot more of them and I'm pretty sure north America has its own exclusive region. The Philippines is NTSC though, I think. Places where the US military has camped out in the past usually are NTSC. Except in Europe. If you get a backward compatible ps3 in the US, it will only work with ntsc U/C (US and Canada) ps2 games and US region dvd's (region 0 if I remember right) but you'll be fine for the ps3 games, and for blu-ray videos, and for using the ps3 on a standard def Filipino TV.

First you have to decide which "overseas" will provide "what" better future. Find out from the country's embassy or consulate what the entry requirements. Apply if you satisfy the entry requirements. This is a very big step. Once approved, act resolutely and make it work. What "If I had....." never get anyone anywhere! Good Luck.

in my past companies, we had expats. they say they love working here because of the perks. the salary is quite high and sometimes, there is a package that enables them to bring their whole family here. they also love the beaches and they say filipinos are one of the most amiable people on earth.
2 :
My feelings on the Phillippines is that it probably would not be safe. There is a strong anti-anglo sentiment there. There have been cases of American missionaries being kidnapped and killed by muslim extremists.
3 :
for some of the foreigners, the job gives them a lot of perks, like housing, a car, and better salaries.
4 :
If the company that I work for opened a branch in Manila and needed a "volunteer" to help establish it I would definately jump at such an opportunity. To be paid an Australian wage while working in the Philippines would be a job made in 'heaven'

YES, I do. I'm not a foreigner. I'm 100% Pinay currently stucked here in Houston, TX. But yes, I'd like to go back to my home country and work there....any outstanding university is fine with me...it must be in the academe....or my own consultancy firm (i.e. HRD projects).

An Indian, who has good friends in the Philippines, I would certainly appreciate a chance to work there : ...As most Filipinos speak and write excellent English, communication with my colleagues will not prove any problem either. ...But the real problem is that there will hardly be any takers for my fields of specialisation, and that too, paying my kind of wage-scales !
8 :
I am an American living in the Philippines and I have to address this issue to one of the answers above. What is the difference in being kidnapped and killed by a "Musilem" while you are at work in the Philippines, or Being taken into the freezer and shot in the head for $150. while you are working at McDonalds in New York, by a Christian?

He would like to work here because he thought Philippines is amazing and with amazing people..but then again he can't work here because of the low salary. Anyway, he will retire here.
10 :
talk with some foreign friends they like to work here if given the opportunity and the pay scale is the same back home because of the perk like free home ,car etc. and the beaches and pinoy hospitality of friendliness

im from cagayan de oro and i can say that working here is safe, it actually depends on the type of work that you want. Dont expect too much from what other countries are offering, in terms of salary, benefits , etc. You can work anywhere in the Philippines , just avoid some parts of Mindanao where terrorist activity is high. No matter where you go, even manila, you will see people with bad motives, snatchers, etc. I suggest if you have some capital, you start your own business here.

Philippine Airline sometimes has cheaper airfare compared to their peers as the service is not as good. If you are all leaving from the same city, then maybe the airline will give you a group rate depending the number of people flying. You can try a travel agency as well. Whenever I fly into Asia, I go through an Asian travel agency because they can get a good deal on tickets.

You can either work or own a business.
2 :
No. As retiree you have your own set of privileges however you can apply for a work permit at the Bureau of Immigration. You will have to prove with the assistance of your employer that your skill is unique and cannot or has not been filled by a Filipino. It would be best if you get an experienced lawyer familiar with the bureau so as to navigate the very cumbersome system with a lot of red tape.

If Verizon has a 'paired' network in the Philippines then it'll work. All you need to do is to ask Verizon to have it on 'roaming' (normally if you are on PAYG or Prepaid, then it wont be on roaming). Then, after getting it on roaming you can go to the Philippines and you'd be paired with Verizon's paired network (Smart Wireless, Globe Telecom, Sun Cellular or Red Mobile). Just make sure you're prepared to pay the price cause roaming is pretty expensive! To know more, contact your Network Service (Verizon, is it?).

Depends on your phone plan! If vodaphone has coverage there, you should not be charged any extra. If you don't have coverage there on your plan, you will be charged roaming fees, but you should still have coverage. (Phone service)
3 :
Ask your mobile operator whether they have any roaming service so it can be worked in phillipine also... Because am using a World Roaming Sim and its working for all over the country... i dono about Vodafone!! just try with ur operator...

Why expose youself to scrutiny. In the Philippines, mental health is taken lightly. If you could pretend and act as normal, never divulge your weaknesses. Just control your mind and action like a normal person. and you will be all right.

My wife's friends daughter modeled for a while , can't remember her name but she did tell me it depends who you work for and how good you are ........ once the public puts you in the spotlight possibilities are endless..... regarding pay ......she didn't tell me.... but at present shes working a sari-sari store.....Hmmmmmm.......... I tried once and it was year 2001. They just pick me personally and i am not in contract with any modeling agency. They give us P500.00 each for just less than an hour of modeling (outfit and other accessories was provided by the company cause it's a mall). Today, I don't know how much the talent fee for modeling especially the one being handled by agencies.

I have not done modeling work here. Had some stints in the USA though, but they were just minor projects.

Yes, you can. You just may need to get citezenship first.
2 :
This reply is painfully true. You are not the only one hoping to find a job in the Philippines. A lot of Filipinos would like one too. Good luck though.
3 :
it's harder to find a job in the philippines but you can still do it
4 :
of course but you have to have a visa and tells you the amount of time you stay there or be a citizen
5 :
Apply for dual citizenship first if you are carrying an american passport. Then join the pool of unemployed. Sorry to say that it is really hard to get a job now a days except if you have relatives that owns a business.
6 :
It may be so. Can you live on $4 a day?
7 :
sure u can, np, u can drive tricycle, or jeepney, but even that is kind of rough, why do you think so many filipinos are working abroad, they don't make much, but anything they make is much more than they would at home, why do you think all of those girls go to places like singapore, hong kong, the middle east, and all of those other third world dung holes where they work, they work as yaya, domestic helper, bargirls, nurses, entertainers(japan-japayuki) they are all over the world, why you would want to work in the phils is beyond me, unless you are white collar, and they may pay u in US$, otherwise u are on the local pay scale. good luck, better reserve your seat at the nearest sari-sari store and join your barkada as standby there, waiting for the next sucker to give you some pesos to buy a bottle of beer or ESQ, or ginebra san miguel. have fun

For example, if you purchase an Xbox 360 console in North America, you cannot play game discs that are sold in Europe or in Asia on that console. An Xbox 360 console that is sold in Europe can only play game discs that are sold in Europe. And an Xbox 360 console that is sold in Asia can only play game discs that are sold in Asia. You cannot modify an Xbox 360 console from one region to play discs or to play Marketplace content that was produced for a different region. Determine whether the game disc is from the same region as the region where you purchased the Xbox console. To determine the region, view the back of the game package. Look for one of the following codes: * NTSC: North America and South America (United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil) * NTSC-J: Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan) * PAL: Europe, South Africa, India, Australia, and New Zealand

You need to have a valid passport to travel to the Philippines. Then you need to apply for a work visa. See this website for more information: http://www.learn4good.com/travel/philippines_visas_requirements.htm
2 :
"All foreign nationals seeking admission to the Philippines for the purpose of employment, all non-resident foreign nationals already working in the Philippines, and all non-resident foreign nationals admitted to the Philippines on on-working visas, who wish to work in the Philippines, regardless of the source of compensation and duration of employment are required by the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to secure an Alien Employment Permit (AEP). Foreign nationals can apply for an AEP at the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate. Local employers who wish to hire the services of a foreigner can apply on behalf of the foreign national at the nearest Regional Office of the DOLE. Foreign nationals who are already in the Philippines should apply through their prospective employers with the nearest Regional Office of the DOLE. " Here is more information: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwha006.html#Work
3 :
there is so much unemployment in the philippines , much less than in the united states, why go there and work, just visit the country and enjoy the place as a tourist and help the economy and don't take away jobs from those who really needed it.
4 :
You need to find a US based employer who needs you over there. No Filipino employer would consider hiring you. There's massive unemployment and enormous underemployment. Teachers earn $200 a month and doctors $300 a month. Fast-food places start their employees out at about $3 a day.

Hello: It really depends. I would recommend you just use a little thing like this guy: http://www.topmic.com/141-0703.html Both a converter and an adapter. So instead of plugging in an adapter, then a converter, then your Wii, just plug the Wii into this. It works anywhere in the world so definitely a great buy. Best of luck.

Hi there, I work for Virgin Mobile and thought I could help out. Virgin Mobile runs off of Sprint's Nationwide network in the US. That means you can make calls internationally from the US with your Virgin Mobile phone, but you cannot use it outside of the US where there are no Sprint towers. Here's some more information about the International Long Distance rates with Virgin Mobile: http://www.virginmobileusa.com/cell-phone-plans/international-phone-plans-rates.html. I hope this helps! Once Verizon Gets the iPhone, Im Totally Getting it, & I'll End My Contract Once I Go Back to the Philippines. So Obviously, i Would Unlock to Get Service. But Since it Is, Verizon & They Use No Sim Cards, & Its a CDMA Service, How Will It Work ? Thanks :)

cellular companies might not give you service, in america metro pcs is the only one that does it.
2 :
1. Um no. These rumors come around every year, and every year, no Verizon iPhone. Just because there̢۪s a rumor of a CDMA iPhone, everyone automatically assumes that it̢۪s going to Verizon, as if Verizon has the only CDMA network in the world. Well, news flash- Sprint uses CDMA too, and so do over 40 other countries in the world. Verizon didnt want it when Apple came to them first back in 2006 and they dont want it now. Why would they, when any Android phone crushes the iDont any day of the week, and Android is already selling more phones than Apple anyways?? Plus, ATT knows that without the iPhone, they have nothing, so they will pay Apple as much as they want in order to keep it. Why would you ever want such a horrible phone? 2. A CDMA phone cannot be unlocked, only flashed, so you would have to find a provider in the Philippines that can flash it to their service
3 :
you'll be waiting forever to get a iphone on verizon...never going to happen. att and tmobile or virgin mobile only!

call centers in the philippines offer one of the most attractive salary packages. as far as i know, the hiring process is very competitive and preference is given to college graduates and other professionals who have had work experience. sorry to disappoint you. http://www.articlesbase.com/outsourcing-articles/call-center-101-how-to-get-hired-immediately-363702.html
2 :
i don't think that you can work when your a 16 yr old freshman, because, when you enter a call center, you need all the resumes and paper work that you'll work on when you finish studying college.. my oldest sister also wanted to enter as a call center agent when she was a 3rd yr collage student, and she wasn't qualified... i don't know. but that was an opinion based on my experience.

we have our laws that govern working policies. call centers are also respectful to our laws. under-age is not allowed.

Depends where you are coming from, you might need a plug adaptor or a voltage converter. But I can describe what they have in the Philippines so you can compare.
