Industrial Engineering fresh graduate from the Philippines want to work in US?
Hi! I am a fresh graduate with the bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineer from a good school in the Philippines and I desire to work in the US. Could there possibly be a work for me there or is it best for me to wait to have a certain number of work experience here in my own country? And if I am to search for a job online, what could be the kind of job should I look for with my degree? Thank you and I would really appreciate your help! :)

Sorry, but your Philippines degree will not be recognized in the USA. You would have to get a degree from a US college. It's just that the two countries have different educational standards and requirements. I'm not saying that one is better than the other - I'm just saying they are different. Same goes for work experience. Jobs you have done in the Philippines system aren't necessarily how those same types of jobs are done in the US.

Will my land line telephone from USA work in the Philippines?
It has the standard wall jack. Just wonder if the wiring is different. I know they use 220 instead of 110 but its a phone line and not an electrical appliance.

Only if no suitably qualified applicant from the EU applies can they offer the job to a non EU applicant. You would have to be interviewed, there is no way any UK company is going to offer a job to someone they have not interviewed. Unless you have a degree level qualification and extensive experience you stand no chance of getting a visa or competing in the job market in the UK. The ONLY way UK visas are ever issued is in the country of the applicant from a visa application centre, usually a High Commission or Embassy. The UK employer would issue you with a Certificate of Sponsorship which you take to the visa application centre with your documents and a fee of £270 which you pay direct to them. I am going to be going over to the Philippines and I want to bring my Xbox-360 over there but I am not sure if my Xbox-360 will be compatible with the type of power outlets over there. Is it alright if I use it without some sort of adapter or not? If not, then what kind of adapter should I buy?

Is it possible to work in the Philippines as a foriegner?
I'm here for 8 months from the states and want to make some money. Can I get a job here? If so how? Is there required paperwork to get permission? thanks. I'm 21 and i volunteer in Manila at a school which is connected to my church in the States. I have experience as a window covering installer, college athletic worker/ bouncer. I dont have any experience modeling but all my friends have told me too. Maybe its easier to get into than it is in the states. Lonesome, what do you do?

i'm sure you can, you just need to secure an Alien Employment Permit from the nearest DOLE office and clearance from the Bureau of Immigration. the latter is a pretty complicated process where you may have to go back and forth between different offices.

I worked in lipat bahay (moving furniture) for three weeks, no paperwork of course. 2400 peso, free water. You have to fix your own food with your work mates but sometimes you get food from the ppl you are helping. Some days I worked like 14 hours but a couple of days we only worked a couple of hours.

There is a very slim chance you will get a working visa here in the Philippines. With so many Filippinos unemployed the wages here are lousey and the hours are evan worse 6 days a week. You may be able to work under the table at a call center and that pays a whopping P10,000 a month for a 12 hour nightshift 6 days a week.

Yes it is possible. Here's my story: I'm 24 and living here in the Philippines with my wife for almost a year now. My permanent residency allows me to work legally here. I've printed out at least 100 resumes, spent hours everyday walking to different businesses and handing the resumes out, and applying online. I finally have a job now as a security consultant/instructor. It started out at 30,000 pesos a month but now after taking the instructor job I'm making at least 65,000 pesos a month, more depending on how many classes I teach a month. I have 5 years in the US Army (Infantry) and a year working for Brinks in Atlanta, Georgia. Since you're here through your church I am assuming you are living here legally. Your best bet would be then to get either a work visa from your prospective employer or permanent residency. In order to get permanent residency though, you would need to marry a local. I would suggest getting a hold of your resume and update it. Make sure also to include a 2x2 picture attached to each resume (Filipinos like to see what their prospective employee looks like before hiring, so make sure to shave and get a decent haircut for it and wear a collar shirt). Next, make contacts. Talk to everyone you know, make sure they know you are looking for a job and what your skills are. Pass along your contact info and even a resume to your contacts that they can show others. It's all about exposure. Based on my experiences though, your best luck is going to be finding companies that are American owned, or who at least have an American owner. Every Filipino supervisor/HR that I've spoken with about being hired did not hire me. Some even laughed at me, thinking I was joking. "Why would I want to hire an American when I can hire a Filipino who needs the job more?" I've been asked that! Of course, the same question can be asked to the Filipinos who go overseas and look for a job in America, "why would I want to hire a Filipino when I can hire an American who needs the job more?" All in all, use what you have already for contacts within your church community. If you don't know Tagalog, learn it! When you do get interviews or you can talk to a supervisor/HR, let them know you are serious about the job and this is not just a hobby for you. If they think you will be a hard and honest worker and they need the position filled, they will call you. Good luck to you. I hope your job hunting goes better than mine. Most of the Philippines uses the two flat prong outlets, which fit US-style two-prong plugs without the need for an adapter. If your device has a three-prong plug (the two flat blades plus a grounder) you will need to get an adapter.

some socket for the plugs in hotels in Manila doesn't work for square or round end plugs. Will my sat nav work in Philippines
Will my sat nav work in Philippines?
I brought my garmin sat nav unit from Australia to The Philippines (visaya region) and it's not finding any satellites. Will it work here? I don't have any Phils maps, but I was thinking it would still find some satellites and I could just add locations? Thanks

There is no reason for it not to work. Older models sometimes have problems finding satelites unless you tell them roughly where you are. The unit may need to be initialised with an approximate location. Also, need to make sure that you have a clear view of a lot of the sky. Older models also do not work well in urban surroundings.

You didn't say what country your in, but most likely, you will have to buy the maps from Garmin, and download them onto your unit. Also, you may have to get a memory card to load them on.

If you can live with plus or minus 3 miles. go for it. There simply is not enough satelite footprints here in the Philippines.

I have a Dell laptop that I took there without any problem. Just check the "brick" on the charger and it should say something about "input voltage". If it says 100 - 240V then that means it can handle anything in that range so either 110 (like the US), or 220 (like Philippines) will be ok. If it does not say that - then you would need to go to a local hardware store in the Philippines and get a transformer for about $10 to change the current from 220V to 110V.

Does anyone have any knowledge on finding work in the Philippines for westerners?
I am going to live in Manila and wanted to find a way of finding work. Does anyone have any suggestions that may help. And what i should do..

You could attempt to be a English instructor or help English students with their studies. (I'm guessing and have no knowledge of the Phillipines) Perhaps you could find work anywhere that caters to American or English tourists.

There are foreigners that offer Internet services such as getting foreign goods like food and clothing to expats from back home; some offer gifts such as flowers, candy, etc to be delivered to Filipinos in the Philippines; some offer their services in helping foreigners get settle here like finding places to live, etc., some write articles and books, etc. But, it is difficult for a foreginer to make a living in the Philippines and without a retirement income from back home you are really taking a risk.

To put a finer point on it, you might have to find a new satellite service provider if the company (like HBO) doesn't have a bird that has that much reach. Also it will only work with a card that the provider recognizes and can program. Most companies will send you a new card when you sign up for their service. And finally, the Phillipines and Saudi Arabia are too far apart to share the same sattelite, but the provider might have overlapping 'birds'.

Try going to Universities that offers Dentisty like: University of the East - and look for the Dental Dept. and check with their administration for some Dental Missions/works that their students do. If it's only cleaning or basically a not too complicated, they might recommend you to their own instructors and group of dental students. If this is a major work, perhaps you should see an experienced or good dentist on that. Good Luck!

I would strongly advise you against looking for the cheapest dentists ... you might find yourself with very shoddy work. I would look for the absolute best dentists and get good quality work, you will still pay only a fraction of what you would pay in your own country.

right now i am waiting for the approval of the immigration for my permit to work here in US, i just wanna ask if I can extend my career from my country as an accountant to apply for a job or should i study still?. anyone can give me advise how am i goin to start an accounting career.

Maybe depeding on the company that you are wanting them to work. If you can show them you know what you are doing, I don't think they really care were you got your degree as long as you know what you are doing. While on the other hand they might care cause probably they never heard of the school you graduated from and they don't know if you just bought the degree off the street and made up the school name. So it all really depends on where you apply. I would ask the company first before i put an n app in so you don't waste your time

Magicjack only has US area codes. If you want to call the Philippines for free then they need the magicjack and need to get an area code assigned to it that is the same as yours or if you also have magicjack they can ask for any US areacode and call anywhere in the US free.. j

Both of you will need to have the MJ so that you can call each other for a lot less than if you do ordinary international long distance calling. But from what I saw and heard from someone who uses it, when your party in the Philippines get theirs, they will need to go to the website of MJ for them to set it up. Same goes for you. You both just need to follow the instructions there on how to get the assigned phone number and other things you need to do to set it up. Once you're both set up and ready to go, you will both need to have your computers on and connected to the internet to be able to use the MJ to call. You may want to do a bit of reading online about it since I saw quite a bit of negative feedback regarding it. It's better to be safe than sorry, right?

I have a friend who has a dead end job as a caregiver in Israel and Dubai. We suggested that she tries Canada however I am not familiar with the procedures for that. My best suggestion is she does cruise ship work. That way she can travel, get a salary with tips and not work in a slave like condition she has right now. What are good cruise ship agencies in the Philippines that will recruit and employ workers for Royal Caribbean or Carnival cruse ships or anything similar? Legit sources only please

How exactly does PayPal work in the Philippines?
I am still a student and do not have a credit card (although I have an extension of my mom's) and I want to bid on an international item off eBay. The seller only accepts Paypal payments. Can someone explain to me how exactly does PayPal work, how it will take funds from my account? Thanks guys!

PayPal in itself is not a credit card,. You can get one through them however. When you set up a PayPal account you have to link it to a bank account or credit card account that you already have. You can then either deposit money into your PayPal account or they can simply make the automatic withdraw from the account that you have linked to them. I'm afraid not. I think it's better for you to start working in a call center when you're in your sophomore year in college. But there's a slim chance that you may start working even though that you're only 16 provided that you have someone to back you up.

Not sure about the storm but I have sold over 15000 Blackberries last year and the Phillipines is known to say well your imei is stolen you need to buy one from us and sign up! I stopped selling BB phones to the Phili. Because of that! I would get the imei and get it registered over the phone in America just to make sure beofre you go throught the hassle
