American wanting to work in the Philippines

American wanting to work in the Philippines?
I am an American who wants to work in the Philippines. I would prefer to work for an American Company over there, even if it's on a contract basis. I don't know where to look and was hoping someone cold help me out. I was even contemplating teaching ESL. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to work there for a couple of years but would need a decent salary also...thanks in advance to anyone...

Call centers are big there until now. You can try working for them since most are American companies too. And they are better paying than local companies. I use to work as an Accent Trainer there and its ok. Good Luck! You'll be fine in the Philippines!

There are american companies in the Phil. which are being managed by americans. All you have to do is search for those companies. One company I know is APC in Laguna and there is one in Baguio City which I forgot the name of the company but they make something like an electronic gadget. btw what is ESL.

Ok mate from what I have learnt in my time so far regarding this matter is this. First of all the idea is nice sure but in reality there is much more you have to think about. What are your qualifications? How much start up money do you have saved up already? Do you have good knowledge of the language and local customs? To tell you the truth its quiet hard to get a good paying job for a foreign company in the Pines. Unless you are transfered from a company in the states to there you haven't got much chance. The companies there hire extremely competent locals to do most of their work and the plus there for them is that they pay them relatively little money for their hard work in order to make more profit. Now I have no idea about your personal circumstances ie your qualifications, wethere you've been there or not and so on but to put it bluntly it would be extremely difficult for you to get a job there. If the millions of locals there have a hard time getting jobs for foreign companies then what chance do you have? Don't think that because your American that you have automatic preference because friend some of the people there are better educated and harder working than your willing to give them credit for. But if you really are wanting to pursue this I would first of all go and visit the Pines first if you haven't done so and see what the conditions are like on the ground and figure out if thats where you really want to work. The plus to that is you can easily find people who work for foreign companies especially in Manila. Best of luck with it all but don't forget the Philippines isn't a forgiving place to people who have made mistakes.
